While there is no
doubting the benefits wireless networking can bring to an
organization, the single largest obstacle preventing wireless
adoption is the inherent security concerns. These concerns are
valid, as wireless networking removes the physical barrier, allowing
outsiders to attack a network from sometimes miles away, with
minimal risk of detection.
With so many options and
opinions regarding wireless security, it can be difficult to know
the ideal solution for your company. One solution is not right
for everyone, and incorrectly implementing a properly secured
wireless network can be disastrous.
Today's wireless
networks can be hardened just as well as a wired network.
However, the skillset and knowledge required to confidently
implement or audit a wireless network typically goes beyond that of
a standard network administrator.
